NAPLAN: pros vs cons

1. PRO: NAPLAN testing gives guidance to help improve the performance of the child and how the teachers and parents further assist that child
1.1. NAPLAN testing gives teachers guidance on how students are doing and what they should teach and when
1.2. NAPLAN testing gives parents a good idea of how their children are doing
1.3. NAPLAN tracks students progress over years as a reference on how they are progressing academically and will help flag any issues that child may be having
2. CON: The stressful impact on children, teachers and parents
2.1. stresses for children: am i good enough?
2.2. stresses for teachers: have i done my job?
2.3. stresses for parents: will my child live up to expectations?

3. CON: Many teachers and schools are being pressured to raise scores
3.1. some teachers feel pressured for their students to do so well they stick to what they know will only help them pass the test
3.2. to spend as much time possible raising children standardised testing scores, there have been reports of recess cut backs which negatively affects the children's emotional and mental well being
