Does bullying lead to suicide? por Mind Map: Does bullying lead to suicide?

1. Bullying does not lead to suicide.

1.1. People commit suicide because of mental illness. It is a treatable problem and preventable outcome (McBride).

1.1.1. Slate writer Emily Bazelon stated in a teen suicide case ¨a girl who was already experiencing mental illness when she arrived at South Harley and stepped into an intricate and nuanced social reality that includes bad behavior¨.

1.1.1.1. This is connected to the view point because Its a real life case in which mental illness was the cause of this girls suicide and not bullying.

1.1.2. There is no scientific evidence that bullying causes suicide. None at all. Lots of teenagers get bullied (between 1 in 4 and 1 in 3 teenagers report being bullied in real life) Very few commit suicide. Among the people who commit suicide, researchers have no good data on how many of them have been bullied.

1.1.2.1. This means that the common person assumes the story is all there when its not so they are lead astray and thats when things dont get solved.

1.2. This article states that in cases where is seems like teens kill themselves because of bullying thats not the main reason, that there needs to be a outside major factor like abuse at home(McBride)

1.2.1. Kelly McBride a writer at the Poynter Institute and co-editor of The New Ethics of Journalism: Principles for the 21st Century. In the following viewpoint, McBride states "that there is no evidence that bullying leads directly to suicide".

1.2.1.1. This Introduced the idea that another factor that wieghs more than bullying

1.2.2. She argues that "media outlets often present simple narratives in which bullying or cruelty drives someone to violence". These narratives distort the facts and can be dangerous—by portraying the victim as innocent and heroic, they can contribute to copycat suicide attempts.

1.2.2.1. This matters because the media shapes everybody's view on new ideas, or in this case worldwide problems

1.3. Because most officials say they cant gather all the information in teen suicides then wont there be problems with "bullying h=killed her"

1.4. Because In one of the most clear cut bullying suicides it was proven that she had past mental illness so bullying may not be extreme enough to lead to suicide

2. Bullying leads to suicide.

2.1. Recently articles about teen suicide being linked to bullying has become really common and the common person dosent blink an eye because we see it everyday (School bullying)

2.1.1. Experts say "Negative outcomes of bullying (for youth who bully others, youth who are bullied, and youth who both are bullied and bully others) may include: depression, anxiety"

2.1.1.1. It means people who know deep knowledge about this subject has well developed beliefs

2.1.2. Juile beck, a journalist who has documented tons of stories, states "We know that bullying behavior and suicide-related behavior are closely related. This means youth who report any involvement with bullying behavior are more likely to report high levels of suicide-related behavior than youth who do not report any involvement with bullying behavior".

2.1.2.1. This means the common people believe just as the experts backing up the claim.

2.2. As South Hadley tears itself apart it seems the only cause is Phobes suicide and the constant bullying even after death.

2.2.1. A weekly reader gave us the real story" Kayla, Sharon, Flannery, and their friends reportedly went on the attack. They allegedly taunted Phoebe, loudly calling her names at every opportunity and challenging her to fights. They allegedly shoved her into lockers and encouraged her on Facebook to kill herself

2.2.1.1. This is connected because its a real life story about a girl who killed herself due to bullying.

2.2.2. Phoebe's death shocked South Hadley and once again brought the problem of school bullying to national attention. Teachers, parents, students, and school officials were all deeply saddened by the end of a promising young life. Phoebe's tormentors, however, showed no remorse. They mocked her death online.

2.2.2.1. This matters because its not just one life being affected as stated here multiple people like her friends struggle and people continue to bully.

2.3. Because phoebes experiences were bullying at extreme and it lead to her killing herself so who's to say this wont happen again .

2.4. Because they're multiple articles showing that bullying relates to suicide then it must be true.
