1. Welcome students when they come in

1.1. Be at the door with a warm smile. Talk to your students every morning.

2. Get ready generic material

2.1. Have something ready to hand out in case you need a moment to transition. Maybe something comes up and you need to step out of the classroom; this would be useful.

3. Model behaviour you want emulated

3.1. If you want enthusiasm, model it. If you want improved fitness, run around at recess or in PE with them.

4. Be consistent

4.1. Students will remember when you are not consistent. Make sure you are.

5. Position in classroom

5.1. Move around the room when teaching. Don't just stand at the front.

6. Think creatively

6.1. Peer teach. Student-led teaching. (Not all the time) Think out-of-the-box. Routine will get boring quickly.

7. Behaviour management is more important than curriculum!

7.1. Having "control" of your class will make learning times easier and more enjoyable.

8. Teacher Philosophy

8.1. WHY are you a teacher? What is your motivation? Know it. Live it.

9. Connect with students individually

9.1. Eye contact, make them feel like they are important to you, get to now them, let them get to know you.

10. Journals/diaries

10.1. This is a consistent way to connect with parents daily if needed. Write a compliment (or a sunshine email).

11. Avoid losing cool

11.1. Don't raise your voice. Be calm. You can be in control without getting worked up. Waste of energy.

12. Be courteous

12.1. Dismiss them at the door with a kind word. Let them go home like they came in - with you being kind and gentle.
