1. 1. Legitimate power
1.1. An agreement among organizational members that people in certain roles can request certain behavior of others

2.1. Power deriving ability to control the allocation of rewards valued by others and to remove negative sanctions

3.1. The capacity to influence others on the basis of an identification with and respect for the powerholder
3.2. Usually associated with charismatic leadership
3.3. Charisma produces a high degree of trust, respect and devotion towards the charismatic individual

4.1. The ability to supply punishments
4.2. E.g ranging from sarcasm to ostracism to ensure that co-workers conform to team norms
5. 4. Expert power
5.1. An individual’s work unit’s capacity to influence others by possessing knowledge or skills that they value
5.2. Employees are gaining expert power as our society moves from industrial to a knowledge-based economy
