2. Symptoms usually become more obvious from ages 7 to 9 but can appear as late as 13 to 15.

3. An ADHD diagnosis is made by a qualified health care professional, based on a thorough clinical history, a physical examination and descriptions of symptoms by the parent and teacher.

4. A treatment plan is developed by you, your child's doctor or psychologist and the school to discuss your child's needs and preferences and to manage your child's ADHD.

5. Medication can be part of treatment, but parents may prefer to engage with other forms of treatment, such as adapting their parenting style and working with the child's school to develop an IEP.
