4.1. LINGUISTICS is the scientific study of natural languages
4.1.1. Branches of linguistics
4.1.1.1. Phonology: Is the study of speech sound(also their patterns), sound systems and abstract sound units.
4.1.1.2. Phonetics: Is the scientific study of speech sounds, non-speech sounds and how they are produced and perceived.
4.1.1.3. Morphology: Is the study of words, word formation and composition of words.
4.1.1.4. Syntax: Is the study of sentence structure, the rules that determine how words combine into phrases and sentences.
4.1.1.5. Semantics: (the study of meanings) In Linguistic is the subfield that is devoted to the study of meaning, as inherent at the levels of words, phrases, sentences, and larger units of discourse.
4.1.1.6. Pragmatics: Is the study of the language in use in context. Is transmitted based on a combination of linguistic competence, non-linguistic knowledge, and the context of the speech act.
