What creates an imbalance of power in cultures? por Mind Map: What creates an imbalance of power in cultures?

1. Race

1.1. A lot of people think their race is superior and that many are below them. This had caused violence. Racist people get a hold of positions with a lot of power and will push their beliefs in their work. An example of that could be police brutality. In The Hate u Give, Officer One One Fifteen pulled over Khalil, suspicious because he was black. He used his power to get hold of others.

1.2. Black people are born to live cautiously around the people who are supposed to protect them.

1.2.1. "how profoundly unfair it must have felt for them to feel like they had to strip away parts of my childhood just so that I could come home at night. " How to Raise a Black Son in America, Clint Smith.

2. Money

2.1. Many people are not able to support their families because of money. Some, such as the one in"The Day in the Life of the Working Poor," have to sacrifice a lot to get through one day. They have to really think about their money and how they could be able to feed their kids, buy them clothes for the weather, and get to work and back everyday. A lot don't know whats that like and many are born with silver spoons.

2.1.1. Poverty

3. Location

3.1. In the 1950's, the United States was almost like two different countries. The north was a lot calmer, black people were treated more fairly. Deep in the South, however, they were treated with disrespect and violence. They weren't treated as humans. Emmett Till suffered from this. He was from Chicago, but tagged along to Mississippi with his uncle. His mom warned him.

3.1.1. "Mississipi is very different from Chicago- make sure to behave yourself around the white people down there." Said Emmett's mother.

3.1.1.1. Later on, he was beat up and sent to drown in a river by a group of white people because he was messing with one of the men's wives who worked in a candy shop.

3.2. Garden Heights vs white towns. It didn't receive care from other parts.

4. Education

4.1. Starr in the Hate u Give went to Williamson Prep because her mom said the schools in her neighborhood were too dangerous to go in. Starr was the only black person in Williamson Prep.

4.2. Tupac's "The Rose That Grew from Concrete." Here, he talks about how depending on where you were born, it can have a big impact in how you live. Some parts of cities have more oppurtinites than other parts, people in tougher parts had to work harder and were looked over.

4.2.1. "Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else cared."
