Grand Challenge (Engineer Better Medicines) & Assigned Theme ( Health) por Mind Map: Grand Challenge (Engineer Better Medicines) & Assigned Theme ( Health)

1. The theme of medicine would best intersect with biomedical engineering in my opinion.

1.1. Biomedical engineering is all about creating new technologies that help improve human health

1.2. In biomedical engineering they can run tests on new drug therapies and create new software that operates medical simulations or computers

1.3. Biomedical engineers also work with scientist to research how the equipment and medicines apply to biological systems

2. Engineering better medicines intersect with advance health informatics and reverse engineering the brain

2.1. By reverse engineering the brain we can learn about the problems that are being created and we can develop new drugs or ways to help prevent these problems.

2.2. New medicines and new organized information can make it easier for patients to understand what is going on with them and how the treatment applies to them

2.3. With the new technologies and software being created, it could be implemented into the brain or used to explore more areas of the brain so that we can understand more about the brain.

3. Being able to engineer better medicines for people definitely falls under the theme of Health. Medicines are what help keep good health and what helps people get healthier when needed.

3.1. Personalized medicines can help treat people for a lot cheaper by identifying other treatments that did/ didn't work

3.2. Diseases could be evident earlier and can be treated or prevented.

3.3. Another very important aspect of the personalized medicine is that it can create paths for curing cancer and seeing why some people have cancer and others do not, why some survive/why some don't.

4. 1. Engineer Better Medicines 2. Health Informatics 3. Reverse Engineering the Brain

4.1. Learning and creating new medicines that can save people now, and mass amounts of people is very important and that's why engineering better medicines is number 1 for me.

4.2. Health informatics is second for me because having organized information on patients, research, dates, technologies, etc. is important but without the right medicines we can't treat them.

4.3. Lastly I said reverse engineering the brain because I think that the other two challenges are more important right NOW in this day in age. Learning about how the brain works and what goes right and wrong is very interesting but I don't see it being as emergent as the other GC's.
