1. Input devices
1.1. Defined as: methods or ways of putting information or data INTO a machine
1.2. Example: a scanner which takes a digital image of a photo or text and transfers to a computer for viewing, filing, and manipulation
1.2.1. Challenge of incorporating: A scanner could be used in a classroom as a way to compile student work that is on a hard copy such as an art project and create a digital file. A challenge of incorporation is scanners may be something only the teacher should use to avoid breaking and a scanner may be costly to replace if damaged
1.2.2. Benefit of incorporating: Much of student work is done in a hard format and it can be beneficial to student progress to catalog some of that work in the form of a portfolio. A scanner can capture this work. Additionally, scanners are easy to use, can be hooked to a network, some come as part of a computer, and many are becoming less and less expensive.
2. output devices
2.1. Defines as: methods or ways of showing the product of data processing or other information manipulation and getting it OUT of the computer
2.2. Example: Headphones! Headphones give sound output from the computer. They are similar to speakers, except they are worn on the ears of one student at a time
2.2.1. Benefit of incorporation: Students can use in a classroom to complete an activity on their own and other students will not be aware of the sound component.
2.2.2. Challenge of incorporation: Individual headphones may be: costly, transfer germs, easily broken, something to distract smaller children and learners
