Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text. por Mind Map: Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.

1. Identify the characters, setting and major events of a story

1.1. To have students do this I could have them publish a magazine featuring all three of these things about a certain book. There could be faux interviews with the characters that would provide their information, fake real estate adds that describe the settings, and creative stories about the events. This would also peak student's interest in the topic. I could use this for any grade.

1.1.1. I would have the student use the computer to make this publication. Then I would have them print them out so we could publish them and display them at events like open house. Then we could put them in our class library.

2. Compare and contrast characters, setting and events in a story or drama

2.1. I would give the students a handout specifying the info I want about each character, setting, or event and have them make a project comparing 2 of the things with the required items. One project I may recommend the students do is a slideshow presentation with side-by-side comparisons. Another one would have the students put on a skit and record it eith them answering as if they were the characters.

2.1.1. I would have the students use the basic PowerPoint program for one of the activities and a video camera and basic computer editing program for the other. Both would require adult supervision.

3. RL 5.3 Compare and contrast two or more characters, settings, or events in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., how characters interact).

4. Provide specific details when describing the interactions between characters

4.1. I think an activity I would have the students do is a puppet show.this way they really connect with the way the characters interact with one another.

4.1.1. There are two ways I could implement some technology into this lesson. One way is to have the kids record their puppet shows to be uploaded online or made into a tape. Another way is to have the kids make a short video that sets the scene and play it before they begin the puppet show.

5. Provide specific details when comparing or contrasting settings or events

5.1. One idea I had for this is creating a digital map for the settings. For the younger kids they could do this on a smaller scale like by making one with simple pictures on a prezi. Kids also might have a fun time drawing the map themselves then with adult help scanning it and making a screen cast about it and going into detail.

5.1.1. Kids will need a computer to do these activities and a Prezi account. They might need to use a scanner.
