Browsers por Mind Map: Browsers

1. Opera

1.1. Pros

1.1.1. As far as speed and security, Opera, like any browser has these issues as a top priority and continually improves these areas. Opera has a the benefit of being little known and therefore has less security threats to overcome. When it comes to improving speed, Opera takes the cake. Not only have they had a long standing feature to handle image loading for faster speeds (and security), Opera now offers the "Turbo Mode" which is excellent for dial-up and other slow connections. Its a compression tool that chows down on page loading time. You can even set it up to automatically detect slow connections and turn on when needed! This is far beyond where any browser has tread. http://ezinearticles.com/?Opera-Browser---Pros-and-Cons&id=3103923

1.2. Cons

1.2.1. Quite simply, IE is integrated with the operating system. It's already installed on the computer, so your computer will download the latest version, patches, and any other related tool for you, providing you use automatic updates. Opera is a separate company, so downloading is necessary. For slow connections, downloading this program could be difficult and you may have problems getting it downloaded. http://ezinearticles.com/?Opera-Browser---Pros-and-Cons&id=3103923

2. Explorer

2.1. Pros

2.1.1. largest market share;March 2005 browser statistics list 63.8% for IE 6. Speedy browser for high majority of sites http://www.upenn.edu/computing/eval/2005/webbrowser/procon.html

2.2. Cons

2.2.1. Very little development for standards-compliance and innovation; i.e. CSS / XHTML. Despite repeated statements that Microsoft "supports" standards pages designed to be compliant in Netscape, Firefox, Safari will often break in IE. Does not gracefully degrade pages. http://www.upenn.edu/computing/eval/2005/webbrowser/procon.html

3. Safari

3.1. Pros

3.1.1. built-in to the OS. Doesn't have the kinds of security problems that plague IE on Windows. http://www.upenn.edu/computing/eval/2005/webbrowser/procon.html

3.2. Cons

3.2.1. has web developer tools implemented via JavaScript Bookmarklets, but poorly organzied and difficult to use compared with Firefox's similar web developer extension. http://www.upenn.edu/computing/eval/2005/webbrowser/procon.html

4. Define: Browser

4.1. A browser is an application program that provides a way to look at and interact with all the information on the World Wide Web. http://searchwindevelopment.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid8_gci211708,00.html

5. Chrome

5.1. Pros

5.1.1. Lack of Add-Ons – this is the single biggest problem with Chrome and why people just look at it, say “Nice!”, and never run it again after that. For example, it doesn’t have a StumbleUpon toolbar, or AdBlock, or S3Fox, or any number of add-ons and extensions that people have come to depend on. http://blog.gadodia.net/google-chrome-pros-and-cons/

5.2. Cons

5.2.1. Page Search – The neat thing about Chrome is that it has a little itsy-bitsy things that set it apart from other browsers. One such thing is how it does page search. You can access page search by hitting Ctrl+F, and when type what you are looking for it highlights the word in the page – but that’s not all, other browsers do that as well. Chrome also marks all occurrences on the vertical scroll bar. This allows you to quickly scroll to the occurrence (useful if you are on a long page). Take a look at the screen shot below to see what I am talking about (all those yellow lines on the vertical scroll bar mark the occurrence of the word that I searched for): http://blog.gadodia.net/google-chrome-pros-and-cons/

6. Firefox

6.1. Pros

6.1.1. Security. Firefox® has some advanced security measures that protect your computer from spyware and even certain viruses.Firefox® also comes with a state-of-the-art popup blocker that stops almost 100 percent of popupshttp://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the-pros-and-cons-of-firefox.htm

6.2. Cons

6.2.1. Memory. Firefox® takes a lot of memory to run. Even with an up-to-date computer, you may find that it becomes hard to run Firefox along with a couple of programs. Firefox® also tends to freeze and close when too many tabs are open simultaneously, which is why Firefox® invested heavily in creating the recovery memory featurehttp://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the-pros-and-cons-of-firefox.htm
