Inclusive Learning Environments por Mind Map: Inclusive Learning Environments

1. Inclusive Strategies

1.1. Utilizing student's strengths

1.2. Making all students feel that they belong

1.3. Students that acquire special needs from a professional the teacher can try and ensure that the professional helps the student within the regular classroom

1.4. Students should have a hand in their own goals

1.5. When teaching a lesson the Universal Design should be used to accommodate all students

1.6. Co-teaching and collaboration between teachers can really benefit the students especially those with special needs

2. Challenges with Inclusion

2.1. Is that students with special needs need early interventions to cope with their disability

2.2. This often happens because of long lists for students to get identified as being exceptional

2.3. Some teachers lack knowledge on how to incorporate inclusive learning strategies

2.4. Depending a student's disability they may need to acquire assistance outside of the classroom (not what I would prefer)

2.5. Lack funding for inclusive tools such as assistive technology

3. Inclusive Training Programs for Teachers

3.1. Some Inclusive Training Programs are: TRIBES and Restorative Practice

3.2. AQ courses depending which institution some offer inclusive training courses

3.3. These programs offer: -positive ways to interact with students -tools to use in the classroom -knowledge on how to deal with students with special needs

3.4. They make teachers understand that all students are different and even if a student has the same disability as someone else they may have different needs

4. Are Inclusive Training Programs are provided for free?

4.1. It seems that I could not find where any boards supply the training for free exactly (I could be wrong)

4.2. I know that the TRIBES and Restorative Practice are paid programs because I took them at the faculty of education and had to pay extra to take them

4.3. AQ courses that related to inclusive strategies are usually not provided for free unless the school board says they will pay teachers to have them

4.4. I think that if possible school boards could supply this training for free at their schools this way teachers have the knowledge in how to incorporate inclusive strategies and philosophy in their classrooms

5. My Final Thoughts...

5.1. That inclusive training is very important if we want to create inclusive classrooms

5.2. Regulating inclusive policies and strategies by: -making sure teachers are doing them -making necessary changes to strategies by getting up to date training in this area

5.3. If training is provided for teachers than the school boards should be making sure that they are including those strategies into the classroom

5.4. An Inclusive Classroom to me means: not just strategies being implemented into the classroom but also adopting the philosophy. Doing everything in your power to be inclusive on your part.

5.5. Collaborating with students, teachers and parents is key to being inclusive

5.6. Inclusive Education may not be easier but it's definitely better
