1. Resistant

1.1. teacher needs to earn their trust

1.6. doesn't think the teacher cares

1.7. May not understand concept, afraid to expose their weakness

2.1. Struggles with depression

2.2. Doesn't know how to do something

2.3. Sad or anxious

2.4. Does not want to be embarassed.

2.5. May be hungry

2.7. Does not see or understand the relevance of the lesson, class, etc.

3.5.1. Needs help to regulate emotions but doesn't know how to ask

4.4. The behavior is modeled at home, etc.

5. Lazy

5.1. May not know how to do something

5.2. doesn't want to appear dumb

5.3. May have been up with younger siblings earlier

5.4. tired or lacking resources

5.5. Fear of failure results in inaction

5.6. been labeled lazy by previous teachers

5.7. Unmotivated

5.8. Perceives the world differently - reads at a a different speed, dyslexic, etc.

6. Attention-Seeking

6.1. connection-seeking

6.2. May try to convince others their way in best.

6.3. Wants to be loved

6.4. lacking positive, secure adult or peer relationships

6.5. wants a relationship with teacher

6.6. Needs validation

6.7. Doesn't receive a lot of positive attention in their daily lives.
