Indigenous Knowledge and Perspectives により Mind Map: Indigenous Knowledge and Perspectives

1. -Education I am currently half way through Bachelor of Teaching (Primary). So far, i have completed the unit English Curriculum: Understanding Language and Literacy which opened up my perspective of Aboriginal culture and its relation to learning and education. Prior to this unit and prior to the Week 1 reading (Rose, M 2019), it is clear that my understanding and knowledge is extremely limited.

1.1. Throughout school and learning in general, I have extensive knowledge on the history of Aboriginal people in relation to their mistreatment, assimilation and inequality with schooling, employment and basic human rights. However, this is the extent of my knowledge.

1.2. I am looking forward to extending my knowledge through studying different perspectives and models presented in EEB435.

2. -Employment In my current career, I have not had the opportunity to work with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people which is a contributing factor to my lack of knowledge and understanding.

2.1. However, through studying this degree, I have sparked an interest in Indigenous studies and am beginning to become aware of the importance of education in the lives of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. In my future career as a Primary Teacher, I hope that I can help to path the way for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students so that culture, identity and language is more commonly recognised.
