3. Question 2: Name and briefly describe the oppression, injustice, discrimination and dominant power relations from a decolonial perspective

3.1. OPPRESSION: The oppression by using this word is clearly seen because during the conquest of México (when the term was first used), Spanish people (oppressor) made indigenous people (oppressed) serve them. Even though we are no longer conquered by the spanish we still use the word. We have not reached a complete level on independence.

3.2. DISCRIMINATION: TThis word was used by the indigenous people because during the conquest of México, Spanish people discriminated them because they were different from them, and because of that, they were taught that spanish people were superior that them.

3.3. DOMINANT POWER: The fact that indigenous people use the word “mande”, that refers to giving an order; gives to spanish people the power to dominate, give orders to indigenous people and make them their servants.

3.4. INJUSTICE: The context of the word origins tells us that this word was used by the indigenous natives to serve spanish people because they were discriminated and treated like servants, which was unfair.

4. Question 4: State the benefit(s) of a converging decolonialist and intersectional perspective/approach to your specific example.

4.1. ANSWER: iA decolonial approach that is intersectional will approach the intersections of categories that emerge from the given context and that are defined by those who experience the realities of those intersections. As was mentioned before, the word “Mande” was used since the “Sistema de Castas Colonial” in Nueva España in 1521 as a way to show submission to somebody with higher power/value. A decolonial approach that is intersectional will take into account the individuals affected by the use of the word as well as their realities and with that build a new way of expression that does not harm any sector of the society. Combining these two approaches can help in developing solidarity.
