1. Benchmark/Interim

1.1. Compares student understanding to a set of standards that is applied to students in the same year or group

1.1.1. Ex: Benchmarks given every 6 or 9 weeks, MAP testing

2. Summative

2.1. Evaluations given at the conclusion of a unit / period of learning.

2.1.1. Ex: End of unit test, Unit presentation, Research paper over major topic

3. Diagnostic

3.1. Used to understand what problems students are running into/have potential to run into so differentiated instruction can be used for those students.

3.1.1. Pre-assessments for units, Brain dumps

4. Formative

4.1. An assessment that measures student progress, provides quick feedback that can help inform content and instruction.

4.1.1. Ex: Exit tickets, Bell Ringers, Kahoot (and other online quiz games)

5. Performance

5.1. Task-based assessment (rather than standard test where students select an answer) that tests students' ability.

5.1.1. Ex: Portfolios, writing (entire process)

6. H.O.T Questioning - Opening

6.1. Q1: Have you ever bought something that had sales tax added on?

6.2. Q2: Why do you think we have taxes on different things?

7. H.O.T Questioning - Guiding

7.1. If I buy a candy bar worth $2, and a $.05 sales tax is added to each dollar, will the sales tax be more or less than the original cost?

7.2. If I own a house and a piece of land, will the taxes I pay on them be associated with property taxes? Or sales taxes?

8. H.O.T. Questioning - Closing

8.1. What's the tax you're most likely to pay on a day-to-day basis?

8.2. Are taxes a fundamental part of our society? Why or why not?
