2. Key Incident

3.1. Civilization vs savagery

3.1.1. ‘We’ve got to have special people In charge of the fire’ Ralph tries to order the boys in a civilized way to ensure their safety.

3.1.2. ‘Jack’s In Charge of the Choir’ Ralph orders boys around for what he believes is for their own benefit=civilization

3.1.2.1. 'That was Simon. That’s was murder’

3.1.3. Where the Conch is, That’s a meeting’ Ralph wants everyone to live in harmony, sees the conch and its power as best way to do that. Symbolizes democracy.

3.1.3.1. “Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood' Boys savage side comes out. They act as one act being, all following the same orders. They are no longer individuals.

3.1.4. ‘Don’t you want to be rescued All you can talk about is pig, pig pig’ Ralph doesn't want to hunt he wants to focus on the fire, whereas the boys are savage and want to hunt.

3.1.4.1. ‘Which is better, law and order or breaking things up?’

3.1.5. ‘Fire is the most important thing on the island because, because…’ Ralph hunts and sees the appeal, here he begins to forget why he thinks the fire is so important. Gets a taste of the hunting and nearly caves.

3.2. Man's evil/darkness in man's heart

3.2.1. 'That was Simon. That’s was murder’ Dark side of the boys is revealed. They kill one of their own

3.2.3. We did everything adults would do. What went wrong? Not just adults who mess everything up, kids do too. Human nature.

Simon encounters the Lord of the Flies in the forest glade and realizes that the beast is not a physical entity but rather something that exists within each boy on the island. When Simon tries to approach the other boys and convey this message to them, they fall on him and kill him savagely.

5. Characterization (how to make a believable character)

5.1. There aren’t any grownups. We shall have to look after ourselves.” Piggy: Shows he is responsible, realistic, forward thinking, sensible. Stands from the rest of the boys.

5.1.1. ‘Which is better, law and order or breaking things up?’ See the different priorities of the boys. They are fighting amongst themselves, showing different values and priorities.

5.2. ‘Jack’s In Charge of the Choir’ ‘We’ve got to have special people In charge of the fire’ Ralph: Shows his leadership, lust for order, civilization, prioritizes working together and getting off the island. Mature.

5.2.1. “proclaims no devil” Ralph is an honest boy, who differs from the others

5.3. ‘Fire is the most important thing on the island because, because…’Ralph sees the appeal of hunting and forgets his real values.

5.4. That was Simon. That’s was murder’ Ralph is only one to admit he took part in the killing.

6. Setting

6.1. ‘We’ve got to have special people In charge of the fire’ Boys are stranded on the island. Ralph believes the fire is most realistic way of escaping. Highlights how empty the island is, how isolated they are.

6.2. 'Where the Conch is, That’s a meeting’ Conch was found on the beach, it was used to bring everyone together, when one has the conch they are allowed to speak.

7. Turning Point

7.1. 'That was Simon. That’s was murder’ First time they kill one of their own. They have gone full savage mode.

8. Climax

8.1. ‘The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. They can no longer gather=end of civilization. Piggy also dies, Ralph is further isolated.
