10. WHY DO WE NEED TECHNOLOGY?
11. As discussed by Tamar Faber on our course on slate "There is a relationship among technology, society, culture, organization, machines, technical operation, and technical phenomenon."
12. "Technology is an integral part of human nature that tirelessly seeks to enhance our life experiences by organizing and applying information to create systems and products. The term also encompasses the tangible outcomes of this process, which are heavily influenced by the socio-cultural values of their development."
13. “Technology means the systematic application of scientific or other organized knowledge to practical tasks.” - John Kenneth
14. Kevin Kelly describes Technology as "The most powerful force of who we are" in his TED Talk when he reflects on the impact it has had on earth since the first tools humans created.
15. "Human’s use of technology involves not only machines (e.g., computer hardware) and instruments, but also includes structured relations with other humans, machines, and the environment. In short, technology is more than a collection of machines and devices." Isman (2012)
16. The tools and systems we create are a reflection of our socio-cultural context and interests.
17. The effects we have on our planet and society will depend on the intention we have when creating a new technology.
18. INSULATED CLOTHING
19. WE NEED TECHNOLOGY TO LIVE LONGER
20. WE NEED TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE OUR TIME ON EARTH MORE EFFICIENT
21. WE NEED TECHNOLOGY AS A CREATIVITY OUTLET
22. WE NEED IT TO SURVIVE
23. WE NEED IT TO SOLVE PROBLEMS
24. Technique and knowledge must be organised before they can bring about effective results. Organisation is therefore an integral part of technology. Li-Hua, R. (2007)
25. Technology represents the combination of human understanding of natural laws and phenomena accumulated since ancient times to make things that fulfil our needs and desires or that perform certain functions (Karatsu, 1990)
26. Technology grows expotentially as we do on knowledge. The more knowledge and experience we have, the more complex our technology will be.
27. Technologie's main fuel is to satisfy desires and humans' needs. The need to constantly "solve problems"
28. This makes me want to reflect on what do we consider a problem? A problem to whom?
29. Who are the people deciding what problems do we have as humans and who are the people designing solutions?
30. We rely on technology now more than ever before, as it is integrated into every aspect of our daily lives.
31. "Organisation of a working process of technique and knowledge into a product may have technical causes, but mostly the actual choice of organisation will rest widely on socio-economic causes and reflect the general social structure of society."
32. I now consider Technology an entire process with a product as an outcome and not only the product itself.
33. Technology can be linear, we inherit knowledge and we continue to develop, organize that knowledge to create or upgrade past procucts of technology.
