1. Sociology Perspectives

1.1. Schooling has a lot of affects on students but I think that the three most important are attitude from the teacher and the student. Another effect would be race, even though this isn't a huge deal anymore it could still be a problem for some students. The last effect I think is important is gender, most teachers are usually women but we are getting to a day and age where there are a lot more male teachers, and sometimes there are problems with administrations being sexist ,and treating men differently and sometimes even paying them better.

1.2. The relationship between school and society is when kids go to school, they automatically get "grouped" there are the rich, poor, smart, dumb, plus many more, and the book states that these judgements often stay with that child throughout their life, because that's all anyone ever treats them as.

2. Philosophy of Education

2.1. Generic Notions- Philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, Dewey, Karl Marx, and Baudrillars often pose difficult abstract questions. Plato helped to initiate tradition through his concern for truth. Aristotle believed that studying the material world was the only way to clarify and develop ideas. Dewey's ideas were influenced by the theory of evolution. Marx is associated with communism.

2.1.1. Goal of Education Idealism says that teachers should encourage their students to search for truth as individuals.

2.1.2. Role of the Teacher- I support the progressive role that states that teachers encourage, offers suggestions, questions, and helps plan the course of study with students instead of just doing it for them.

2.1.3. Method of Instruction- Progressive methods believe that children work better in both groups and individually. Each of these options give students the chance to work with others and then alone.

3. Schools as Organizations

3.1. State Superintendent- Tommy Bice

3.2. State District 4-

3.2.1. Senator- Jeff Sessions

3.2.2. Richard Shelby

3.2.3. Representative- Robert Aderholt

3.2.3.1. School District six- Cynthia Sanders McCarty

3.3. Marshall County School Board

3.3.1. Superintendent- Cindy Wigley

3.3.1.1. Bill Aaron

3.3.1.2. Vince Edmonds

3.3.1.3. Terry Kennimarr

3.3.1.4. Mark Rains

3.3.1.5. Tony Simmons

4. Politics of Education

4.1. I agree more with the conservative perspective, it basically says that the strong survive while the weak do not. Individuals that work for their things and do not relay on the help of the government will be able to make it in certain situations.

4.2. The progressive view seems like an all around better vison. Children are taught that school is apart of life and parents are looked at as another teacher instead of cutting them out completely and the kids are more involved in what they learn and how they learn.

5. History of U.S Education

5.1. The age of reform seemed to have the most influence to me, this is when Horace Mann (the father of the common school) and created the first normal school in Massachusetts, in 1839.

6. Curriculum and Pedagogy

6.1. I agree with the developmental curriculum, which is related to the needs of the students rather than the needs and wants of the society.

6.2. Piaget

6.3. Teacher leads students growth

6.4. Children only learn according to developmental stage

6.5. Environment affects students learning.

7. Educational Inequilty

7.1. Student Centered Explanation

7.1.1. Genetic dofferences could be related to students living enviornments.

7.1.1.1. Hurn developed the IQ theory which bases on the way students learn and what they understand.

7.2. School Centred Explanation

7.2.1. Schools have significant effects on students.

7.2.1.1. Working class and minority student do not acheive due to lack of resources and the fact of living in a poor community.

7.2.1.2. Edomds research stated that if a school was under good leadership and was held accountable that reguardless of background and money, learning should be effective

8. Equality of Opportunity

8.1. In the past, even though women were said to have been better students then men, they were not given the same education opportunties.

8.2. Today women are likey to have a higher level of reading and writing, while men have always been seemingly better at math and science. (So true in my opinion.)

8.3. In the last 20 years women have made many improvements and caught up to men in all levels of education.

8.4. Most of my math teachers in school have been male and this is because men are thought to still be better at understanding mathmatics.

8.5. The Colemen study thinks that schools should be more student learner centered and being misson driven could make a difference in the way students learn and how much knowledge they retain.

9. Educational Reform

9.1. Private Schools

9.1.1. Students pay to attend and believe that these students are smarter and better behaved then students at public schools.

9.2. Public Schools

9.2.1. Free for students and is ran by the government and state taxes.

9.3. School based reform

9.3.1. Qualified teachers in all classrooms.

9.3.2. Keep teachers at their best by offering professional development classes.

9.3.2.1. Standards must be used and met in undergraduated programs.
