1. During Castro- During Castro's rule, he created the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere. Under Castro’s rule Cuba had no economic growth for 55 years. 11 million people were considered poor in Cuba. Travel and Trade from the U.S. to Cuba was slim to none. The U.S. tightened its embargo on Cuba in 1992 because of the armed conflict between rebels led by Castro. Cuba government violates Human Rights Often. Cuban Laws limit freedom of expression, association, assembly, movement and the press.

2. Fun Fact: the travel rate is climbing for Cuba because of the new ruler Raul Castro. since Raul the travel rate climbed 16%. During 1950's Raul was a rebel commander for the Cuban armed forces.

3. Post Castro-Despite the recent rise in American tourism Cuba experienced negative in 2016. In other countries however there is a direct correlation between economic growth and the amount of tourism. A country with more tourism generally is more wealthier.The well off Cuban citizens are the ones who work for the tourism industry such as tour guides or hotel workers. Despite a 17.6% increase on tourism from 2014 to 2015 the majority of citizens are still poor. Only 25% of workers are in a private sector. The rest work for the government for salaries of only about 20-40$ per month.

4. Fun Fact: Raul Castro took charge after his brother Fidel Castro. Fidel was a ruler that practiced Communism and didn't let Cuba commerce with other countries. After Raul was made acting president he allowed travel with certain countries. But the people in the country has still very little rights.

6. Pre-Castro-Cuba was neither the paradise conjured by the evocative imaginations of Cuba's many exiles, nor a terrible place said by the supporters of the revolution. Instead, Cuba was suppose to turn out to be a major hotspot for tourism especially for Americans. Rather, Cuba was one of the most advanced and successful countries in Latin America. Cuba had ranked 5th in the western hemisphere for greatest national income due to its thriving selling of sugar.
