1. Disadvantages

1.1. It's difficult for teachers to make students develop communicative competence

1.2. It's time-consuming for teachers when preparing authentic materials

1.3. Students can easily get distracted as they may be discussing another topic.

1.4. For shy students is a big challenge to take

1.5. Teachers have to change traditional teaching and making an extra effort to do activities.

2. History

2.1. Phase 1: Traditional approach (1960s): this traditional approach gave priority to grammatical competence. Was mainly based that repetitive practice is the main basis of english.

2.2. Phase 2: Classical Communicative Language Teaching (1970s - 1990s): this phase is a skill-based syllabus. This is focused on the four skills.

2.3. Phase 3: Current Trends in Communicative Language Teaching: Since 1990s this method it's been implemented more and more, because it describes a set of very general principles grounded in the notion of communicative competence as the goal of second and foreign language teaching.

3. How would our educational system be if we implement CLT instead the traditional way?

3.1. In this case, with the approach, CLT the educational system would change completely since it would improve the communication and confidence of students when expressing their ideas since it would give them the tools to express themselves effectively in different contexts.

4. Have you ever used the CLT approach or any of your teachers have used it?

4.1. We haven't used this approach yet, nor have any of our teachers implemented it in class , but if they had we would have developed our speaking skill, critical thinking and also our confidence when speaking in public considerably.

5. Proposals:

5.1. First proposal: brainstorming. Ask our students about what they think in a specific topic (climate change, education or their community) and give words related to the topic in case they don't know how to create a complete thought

5.2. Second proposal: presentations ask our students to give a little presentation of a topic they like (books, shows or even music) and why they like it. They are going to give feedback to each other at the end of the presentations

6. What is communicative languague teaching?

6.1. It is an approach to language teaching that emphasizes interaction as both, the means and ultimate goal of teaching.

7. Origins

7.1. CTL was born by seeing the dissatisfaction created by the grammar-translation and the audio-lingual method. The origin can be also tracked back in 1960s in the changes in the British transmition of language.

8. Advantages

8.1. Students increase considerably fluency and accuracy in the language.

8.2. Teamwork allows interaction by sharing ideas.

8.3. Students learn to use language in real situations.

8.4. Learners develop deeply critical thinking

8.5. Vocabulary is expanded according to the context on study

9. Characteristics

9.1. It focuses on developing communicative competence

9.2. It based on simulations of reality

9.3. The grammar of the language is learned implicitly.

9.4. It focuses on collaborative activities rather than individual ones.

9.5. Language is taught according to purpose or context.
