Defending North America by Mind Map: Defending North America

1. The Scrapping of the Avro Arrow

1.1. Pros

1.1.1. "Not even the Canadian Air Force wanted to buy it"- A.Finkle and M.Conrad ; the Avro Arrow was very expensive John Diefenbaker did not support the idea, and there were very little orders from the new government. With missiles going to be the future of nuclear weapons, many believed that the Avro Arrow was designed to intercept, the Soviet bomber, was on its way out

1.2. cons

1.2.1. The fighter plane could give Canada a chance to be abe to be established as the technoological leader Would be used as themain interceptor in order to counter the threat of Soviet bombers in the 1960's and ahead. With a more proper enginge the Avro Arrow would have been the fasted and most advanced interceptor in the world.

2. Canada's Role in the Cuban Missile Crisis

2.1. Pros

2.1.1. With a voting poll, Canada showed that 80% of Canadians believed that Canada should have done everything it could to aid the USA in the Cuban Missile Crisis When troops were put on alert, it was only after the damage on Canada-USA relations had happened. Canada should have been on alert even more instead of refusing to get involved seeing as the world was on the brink of war.

2.2. Cons

2.2.1. Canada had no quarrel with the major conflict and to go to war just because America was was ridiculous. Canada wanted more evidence than some photographs, because the photographs could have been faked. Canada would have a better role in finding a solution for U.S. and Cuba crisis to prevent nuclear war from happening by serving with the United Nations instead of fighting.

3. Canada's Acceptance of Nuclear Weapons in 1963

3.1. Pros

3.1.1. Canada could counter attack Russia's nuclear attacks with their own access to nuclear weapons. Would make Canada and the United States of America become allies. Nuclear weapons are cheaper as well as they work better and more effective than Avro Arrows.

3.2. Cons

3.2.1. Canadas choice to progress towards nuclear weapons will go against its alliance with the United Nations who are progressing towards global disarment. with the use of nuclear weapons, they also have the cause that might lead to global suicide. Canada appears to be following America instead of making its own decisions just like Canada did for Britain.
