1. Risk factors
1.1. Pneumonia can affect anyone. But the two age groups at highest risk are:
1.2. Children who are 2 years old or younger
1.3. People who are age 65 or older
1.4. Other risk factors include
1.4.1. Chronic disease.
1.4.2. Smoking.
2. Complications
2.1. Bacteria in the bloodstream (bacteremia).
2.2. Difficulty breathing
2.3. Fluid accumulation around the lungs (pleural effusion).
3. Prevention
3.1. Get vaccinated.
3.2. Make sure children get vaccinated.
3.3. Practice good hygiene.
4. Symptoms
4.1. Chest pain when you breathe or cough.
4.2. Fever, sweating and shaking chills.
4.3. Confusion or changes in mental awareness (in adults age 65 and older).
4.4. Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
5. Causes
5.1. Bacteria.
5.2. Community-acquired pneumonia
5.3. Bacteria-like organisms.
5.4. Fungi.
5.5. Viruses.
