3.1. Definition: A diagnostic assessment is structured to assess students' strengths, weaknesses, knowledge and skills before their instruction. This helps teacher structure a lesson according to student profile.
3.2. Example 1: Exam distributed to check if student has the necessary skills to be placed in an AP class.
3.3. Example 2: KWL Chart given to students before a vocabulary lesson. 3. An exam administered to check whether an ESL students is Beginner or Advanced.
