1. 1. Working Drive

1.1. Drive for shooting tethered with capture one of editing photos without having to copy them onto your laptop hard drive.

1.1.1. USB-C M.2 NVMe Enclosure with Samsung 970 1TB drive. should allow for 3500mb/s vs the 500mb/s of your current external ssd. Will be much faster for transfers even if you shoot to SD card and transfer directly. Using this drive as your main drive will stop your laptop from filling up with space.

1.1.1.1. Cost - 114eur

2. 2. ARCHIVE

2.1. SSD dock with 2 2tb ssd linked with Dropbox 3tb account

2.1.1. Once you finish your project on the working drive. (e.g. end of vm project imagine the hard drive we use is your working drive.) You would copy all of your photographs you want to keep over to a SSD. removing some of the bulk photographs just leaving a few incase you need to go back e.g. saving a 100gb capture session rather then a 1tb one. there is no point making your life harder having to recover 1tb of data if the day came that you need only 100 of it. If you needed to backup a complete 1tb session during a shoot there should still be enough space on here for you to do that and go back and trim it down at a future point

2.1.1.1. The data you put on this drive will automatically be synced to dropbox creating a way of you being able to acsess it remotly and also creating a safe backup of the archive.

2.1.1.1.3. Freelancer account https://www.dropbox.com/plans

2.1.1.2. Cost 244eur +16eur/mo a synology nas is about 1000 in total so 4 years payoff time to skip this and buy a synology.. note its not backed up online if you do that, if the drives go the data goes.

2.2. files to stay on here for about 1 year depending on how fast it fills up. it should be a place where you can acsess data very fast and easy to look back at previous projects etc

3. 4. BACKUP

3.1. 3-2-1 backup 3 copies of data 2 different media types 1 off side this is the golden rule to backups! also note, the archive and working drives are NOT backup drives. However as this plan would use dropbox to create a nas it is techincally backed up online to dropbox while it is on the archive drive incase that ssd dock went got hit by a bolt of lighting from thor or whatever.

3.1.1. 4x 3tb drives in a dock 1x 16tb rugged external HDD 1x Amazon AWS storage

3.1.1.1. When projects become redundent on the Archive you would move them over to this drive and delete them from the archive drive. Perhaps 1tb at a time so every 4-6 months for example.

3.1.1.1.1. Identical dock to the archive one just separate so your not having to remove drives and swap them over risking damage

3.1.1.1.2. maybe you already know a good deal on a external hard drive as you have looked at a lot

3.1.1.1.3. amazon aws is very cheap like 1 or 2 euros a month and basically infinate storage however its slow to recover the data so its really a last option. you would g

3.1.1.1.4. Cost perhaps around 400 depending on the final size you wanted. note, even if you buy a synology this step is crucial... a nas is not a backup!

3.1.2. Rugged drive to be kept off site. In bali maybe... so you have your copy on AWS, HDD dock and rugged hardrive = 3 types online and phyical hard drive = 2 types 1 in bali = 1 off site!
