The students in a course are required to analyse the bio-diversity of a nearby lake in order to be able to make recommendations to those who manage the lake. One of the learning outcomes states that by the end of the course students will be able to make recommendations for action to maintain the bio-diversity in the lake for the next 20 years. They spend a lot of time on field work at the lake, and the assessment requires them to write a report to be presented to a local government body with analysis and recommendations.
