1. Interests

1.1. I am interested in many things, but cooking and baking  really stands out. This is why I have chosen to teach this.

1.1.1. I enjoy cooking and baking at home - I usually cook homemade food and enjoy experimenting with new foods and ideas.

1.1.2. Jamie Oliver first inspired me to cook - watching his TV shows throughout the years  gave me great pleasure. Alongside this The Great British Bake Off encouraged me to try new baking ideas.

2. Contacts

2.1. Alongside qualification and skills, having a good set of contact around you can enable you to gain experience you need.

2.1.1. Volunteering - working with people who are already qualified doing the job can enable you to gain a better understanding of the job role.

2.1.1.1. I currently volunteer at a local secondary school one full day a week - this has given me a great insight of what the job entails. alongside this I hope to gain further placement while at university to see how other schools operate.

2.1.2. Job roles unrelated - these can help you gain skills that may be required for the job role. things such as good time keeping and communication skills can be picked up within any job role.

2.1.2.1. I currently work for the NHS as a Health care assistant. This job role has enabled me to work with a vast diversity of people from all backgrounds. Working alongside my degree has also enabled me to balance assignment work alongside a job, volunteering and family life.

2.1.3. College & University - college and university teachers have often had many students in the same position I am in. They can be used effectively to not only help with assignment work, but help gaining volunteering and work experience.

3. Motivation & Values

3.1. Many things motivate me to be a teacher, I think this is one of the most important things when choosing a career. Should you not be passionate about a role, you will not give this 100%. In teaching it is important you always give everything you can as otherwise you are not only letting yourself down, but your pupils.

4. Qualifications

4.1. A relevant degree either food technology or education based is needed with a 2.2 or higher. this will then enable me to progress onto the Food technology PGCE degree at Bradford college. Alongside this, Math & English GCSE's are required to teach food technology within secondary education.

5. Skills Needed

5.1. Skills needed to become a secondary teacher are unlimited. As schools have changed greatly over the years, more and more is needed.

6. Progression

6.1. Once I have completed my educations studies degree I wish to either progress onto the Food technology PGCE at Bradford college. another option would be to do teacher training within a school. This would require a school willing to accept this and pay the fees for the course. From research and speaking with school, the second option is becoming more and more popular and accepted.

6.1.1. once I have been teaching and gained experience the next step would be to gain a position as head of department. To do this I would have to be committed not only to the classes I teach, but the school as a whole.
