2. 2. What does it entail? Before reading the file: It entails many descriptive words, adjectives, people, places and things. After reading the file: It should contain similes and metaphors; it should create vivid and original imagery: both mental pictures and emotional feelings. The most effective description is developed through careful choices of vocabulary - precise vocabulary; We should always try to avoid overuse of describing words; instead, we should work hard to choose a more precise word. Also, we should include carefully chosen precise verbs and nouns! We must create mental pictures by using original, vivid similes and metaphors to describe sights, sounds, feelings. symbolism, metaphor and irony. It would help to 'switch places' and for a momentreflect on becoming your own reader. When you read you like to be made to feel!

3.1. 1. What in your opinion is Descriptive Writing?

3.1.1. - Before reading document: It is when a passage is written with such clarity that the reader is able to picture the whole scene described in his/her mind./ Basically, it involves all five senses within the writing itself, in order to involve the reader more into a real life scenario. - After reading document: It is when a passage is written such that the reader can imagine seeing, feeling, hearing, tasting and smelling whatever the writer is describing. It is also as if the writer is a human camera. Descriptive writing seems to be like a picture made of words, it does not tell you how food is delicious, instead it shows you how appetizing was the food.

4.1. Initial Thoughts

4.1.1. 1. Descriptive writing is just all about describing a particular scene vividly and the scene would be described in a detailed manner.

4.1.2. 2. It makes use of many suitable adjectives which describe places/people/things creatively and vividly

4.1.3. 3. Descriptive writing allows a writer to be more open-minded and to use colourful words while writers have to maintain a strict language flow in other text types. There are no limitations in descriptive writing, you can just let your imagination flow.

4.2. After in-depth reading

4.2.1. 1. Descriptive writing can be defined as “words of art”. They can allow you to “paint” a vivid picture of the setting in the reader’s mind and maybe even let them be part of the story. Descriptive writing coaxes the reader to not only enter but also become a part of the world the writer is trying to create. In other words, descriptive writing helps to connect the reader’s mind to the story he/she is reading.

4.2.2. 2. It involves artistic adjectives (aka “describing words”) which enhance a sentence, together with making precise use of all the five senses. Descriptive writing also focuses more on specific terms than abstract terms (such as bright vs. beautiful). The definition of "beautiful" will vary from person to person, but words like "bright" will not. The use of symbolism, metaphor and irony helps enhance the writing and facilitates stimulation.

4.2.3. 3. Descriptive writing gives one an opportunity to use colourful language and imagination and even the impossible can be made possible by the words you use. However, in other text types (eg. Formal letters) only certain type of words are strictly meant to be used.

5.3. 3. How is it different from other text types (e.g. expositions, formal letters) you have learnt?

5.3.1. Unlike expositions and formal letters where we have to write along a borderline. In descriptive writing, though we are only stuck to one scene we can use a wide range of metaphors, similies and make the overall essay be fun with the choice of words we have. I think in other text types, we have to focus more on grammar compared to the descriptions we add and vocabulary but in descriptive writing, we have to give equal importance to both.
