1. Input: computer peripheral that the user can use to enter data into a computer. One example of an input device is a pointing devices include any input device that enables users to point and select commands or icons they wish to use. One example of a point device includes a touch pad.

1.1. Touch Pad: Benefit Touch pads allow for students to participate in learning activities as a group. Faculty can monitor student progress and assist students as they need help. Use of the tool engages students in active learning. Challenge Both faculty and students require appropriate training to ensure they can properly use the tool. Student accessibility may hinder use of tool for some learning activities. Application to learning Faculty can use touch pads in large lecture classrooms to field questions, take surveys, and share content.

2. Output: The pieces of hardware that move information (data that have been processed or accessed) out of the computer.

2.1. Smart Board: a large interactive whiteboard that used touch technology to detect user input. Used in conjunction with a computer and projector, it can become a giant touch screen. Benefit Smart boards provide an opportunity for course curriculum to become interactive. As an instructor discusses a geography lesson, students have the opportunity to experience the visuals of the lesion in 3D, past, present, and future. Challenge Smart boards may isolate some students based on learning needs and accessibility issues. They also require proper training to ensure faculty properly incorporate into curriculum. Application to learning – in a math course student could be asked to go to the white board and complete math problems. The in class lesson could be recorded and uploaded to the classes LMS or website for students to review while doing homework or studying for a quiz or assessment.
