1. Government and Society Roles

1.1. Kings

1.1.1. They are on the top of the hierarchy

1.1.2. They gave orders and was expected to keep the peace in their country

1.1.3. It is their responsibility to fight foreign invaders, and stop crime

1.1.4. They are the military leader

1.2. Nobles and Lords

1.2.1. Nobles and Lords are second on the hierarchy

1.2.2. they provided supplies and military service for the king

1.2.3. They can displace the king

1.2.4. They gave land to knights and low class nobles

1.2.5. they provided work, land and protection for the peasants

1.3. The type of government they had was "feudalism"

1.4. Knights

1.4.1. knights are third on the hierarchy

1.4.2. Knights are expected to learn how to fight and to serve their lord.

1.4.3. A knight must guard the castle

1.4.4. Squires

1.4.4.1. a boy becomes a squire at age 14

1.4.4.2. they serve the knights by being their shield carrier

1.4.4.3. they do important task such as saddling horses or caring for the knights weapons and armor

1.4.5. Pages

1.4.5.1. a boy serves as a page for 7 years

1.4.5.2. they give running messages, serving, cleaning clothes and weapons

1.5. Serfs

1.5.1. Serfs are at the bottom of the hierarchy

1.5.2. serfs are basically peasant farmers

1.5.3. they were expected to farm for the lord and pay rent

1.5.4. Serfs doesn't have freedom

1.5.5. their master owned the serfs that lived on their land.

2. Daily Life

2.1. Low class people worked as farmers for long hours each day

2.2. Peasants would wake up very early

2.3. For fun peasants danced and wrestled

2.4. People go to church and pray 5 times everyday

2.5. A nobles daily life always have political discussions and decisions

3. The Mongols

3.1. lasted from 1206 until 1368

3.2. they ruled the largest empire in the world

3.3. their empire expands from Korea to Western Russia

3.4. In Russia, they ruled for 200 years

3.5. The Mongol armies became the most effective force during this time

3.6. The mongols were under the leader Genghis Khan

4. The Black Death

4.1. The black death was a dangerous epidemic

4.2. The black death caused a third of Europes population to die and was also said that this epidemic killed 50 million people

4.3. This epidemic struck Asia and Europe, the plague came to Europe in October 1347

4.4. It was also called the Great Plague

5. Important People

5.1. Marco Polo

5.1.1. He worked as a messenger for Kublai Khan

5.1.2. Kublai Khan sent him on a very important business somewhere far in China.

5.1.3. He was a famous explorer who travelled to China

5.2. Joan Of Arc

5.2.1. she claimed to receive visions from God. In the hundred year war, she somehow got the French to win the war

5.2.2. She helped build women’s right by fighting in the war.

5.3. Richard I Of England-The Lionheart

5.3.1. He is known for being a Chivalrous king

5.3.2. He is a military leader, he was famous for having many victories in the battlefield

5.4. Charlemagne

5.4.1. He was the king of the franks

5.4.2. The Pope crowned him as the Emperor of the Romans.

5.4.3. Charlemagne helped with the spread of Christianity

6. Religion & Spirituality

6.1. They celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ (December 25th)

6.2. Christianity

6.3. They believed in magic, spirits and witches

6.4. They go to church and pray often

6.5. The Pope was head of the church

6.6. Parish Priest are the spiritual link between the people and God

6.7. Christians thought that life on Earth was a way to death which led to heaven. They believed that life started in heaven

7. The Crusades

7.1. In the year 1212, about 30 000 French and German children was part of a Children’s Crusade to fight the Muslims

8. Islam

8.1. Islam is a religion, they believe that there is only one God

8.2. 1.3 billion follows Islam, Islam is the second largest religion in the whole world.

8.3. Those who believed in Islam were called Muslim’s

8.4. Islamic doctors was involved in the field of medicine and contributed alot

8.5. In 1000 CE, Muslim doctors made pharmacies to give medicine to people that are sick

8.6. Muslims expanded all the way into the Eastern Roman Empire

9. The Vikings

9.1. the vikings were famous for sailing huge distances.

9.2. vikings also traded with people from other countries
