JO SHOULD DO THE HISTORY TAKING AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FOR ADVANCED PRACTICE COURSE BECAUSE:af Jo Salisbury
1. TIME
2. FAIRNESS
3. PROFESSIONALISM
4. NURSING PRACTICE
5. I have limited finances and at present cannot afford to self-fund practice development.
6. I can honestly assure you that I always try to be a Nurse worth investing in.
7. I consider knowledge surrounding anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as never having been a personal strength in my nursing. This course offers the chance to improve these weaknesses.
8. Developing my physical assessment skills, knowledge surrounding anatomy, understanding of physical functions and history taking will greatly improve my independent clinical decision-making.
9. I would love to develop previous training on pre-operative assessment to improve my history taking during consultations.
10. I strongly feel that Continuing Professional Development is a fundamental aspect to improving nurse-led services and patient experiences within the NHS.
11. I have the ability and to translate knowledge gained into improved evidence-based practice. For example, I have researched wound care methods which have subsequently improved outcomes for patients with problematic wounds.
12. I feel it is a long time since my last major learning opportunity and I would never want to feel like I am “complacent” in my practice.
13. I believe in quid pro quo and I recognise the investment the Department would be bestowing upon me. If I was gifted this opportunity, I would dedicate myself to repaying the Department in every way possible.
14. If I were given this opportunity above any of my other colleagues who also wanted it, I would defer to that person when the next “limited space” training opportunity arose.
15. I hope I would get the support of colleagues if I was awarded this opportunity; as I would support my colleague if they were awarded it above me.
16. I would like to use this time to dedicate myself to improving the services and outcomes of the Royal Eye Infirmary patients.
17. CAPABILITY
18. LOYALTY
19. PERSONAL
20. Being single, I have no one to rely on so must increase my financial security through training and career development.
21. I am creative and can think outside the box (this pitch!).
22. I am a loyal employee and would hope that I can use transferable skills in the Royal Eye Infirmary for a long time.
23. I love coaching and sharing knowledge. This will benefit my patients and colleagues within the REI as I would disseminate skills, knowledge and understanding gained.
24. Investment in my training will help build the trust and loyalty I feel towards my new employers, as a new employee.
25. I am always eager to learn and enjoy academic challenge.
26. Recent academic grades prove my educational capability to excel in study.
27. Awarded 1st Class Honours BSc. in Adult General Nursing in 2013.
28. Completed the Nursing Mentorship Education and Assessment in Practice Level 7 Postgraduate Module in 2017; the level 7 assignment awarded above 70%.
29. I came into Nursing relatively late in life therefore must take every opportunity to become the best Nurse possible in the limited career time I have left. Carpe Deum!
30. Having no external commitments at present enables me to devote the time needed to achieve success in this course. In fact, I would be grateful to have new challenges to fill my spare time!
