1. Type of Conflict: Man VS. Society (Elena VS. Cultural difference)
2. Summary/Paraphrase: Elena found out that Eugene was in honor classes for all of his subjects; and the honors classes weren't opened to her since English wasn't her first language. She was also a straight A student, and still couldn't have honor classes.
3. Explanation: This fits with this type of conflict because Elena being Puerto Rican is affecting her education. The school won't let her take honors classes because of her race and culture, even though she's a straight A student.
4. Type of Conflict: Man VS. Man (Elena VS. the black girls that picked on her)
5. Summary/Paraphrase: One of the girls was named Gail, she picked on Elena on a regular basis. Gail would call her skinny bones. "Didn't you eat your rice and beans and pork chops for breakfast today," Gail said. Elena envied the black girls who could jump rope super fast.
6. Explanation: This fits with this type of conflict because Elena the black girls like to pick on Elena and make racist comments, such as the one about bean and rice.
7. Type of Conflict: Man VS. Himself (Elena VS. Herself)
8. Summary/Paraphrase: When Elena was laying in her bed she was trying to feel bad about JFK passing away but she only felt bad about herself.
9. Explanation: This fits with this type of conflict because Elena is going against herself since she can only think about herself after the president's assassination.
