VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY af Mind Map: VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY

1. DIFFERENT TYPES OF VALIDITY

1.1. Content validity- content validity, which says that the items included in the test represent the possible items as a whole.

1.2. Criterion validity- Criterion validity is when the test has shown how effective it is in predicting criterion or indicators of a construct

1.2.1. There also are two different types also, they are Concurrent and Predictive. Predictive criterion's are measured by the gathered information at the time of the testing. Examples of these types of tests are career and aptitude tests. These tests will determine whether or not there is success of failure in certain subjects or occupations. Concurrent validity is for example, when a test measures the current state or the level that is experienced by the test taker, it estimates the current state with regards to the criterion. For example, levels of a mental state of an individual. Construct validity is if a test demonstrates an association between the prediction of a theoretical trait and the test scores, such as IQ tests.

2. , Reliability is when an assessment serves as the results of gathered content that is based on consistent and stable results (Phelan and Wren, 2005-06). There are at least 4 types of Reliability: Test-retest is a measure of reliability obtained through administering the test to a group of individuals twice over a period of time. Then, the scores from both tests given are correlated in order to test for stability. Parallel forms measures different versions of an assessment, but they both must contain the same items that are being tested for. For example, skills, knowledge) and involve the same group of individuals, then they are correlated using the results from different versions. Inter-rater used to assess the degree to which different individuals assessing agree in their decisions overall. Sometimes individuals rate differently, for example, if a group of judges are deciding on a competition. Internal consistency used to evaluate the degree to which different test items probe after the same information to probe similar results.

3. Validity and Reliability are important in a learning assessment because they can define the importance of a test when it comes to if the test holds up to standard. With these types of standards to guide the teacher he/she will be able to determine whether or not there is any stability in the way the test was administered. Also, there will be a great determination into what may need to be revised in order to support the learning strategies given through the school districts. Ensuring that the student is meeting the recommended standard requirements for the state the teacher has to ensure that the test being administered are valid in their content structure and rely upon them for their success.
