1.1. Mount Rushmore will be the second stop on our trip.
1.2. The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota, in the United States. Sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum, Mount Rushmore features 60-foot sculptures of the heads of four United States presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The entire memorial covers 1,278.45 acres and is 5,725 feet above sea level
2. Needles Hwy.
2.1. Needles Hwy. will be the fourth stop on our trip.
2.2. Needles Highway Located in Custer State Park 14 Miles in Length on SR 87 This drive features spectacular Black Hills scenery including; granite spires, the Needles Eye, narrow tunnels and hairpin curves. Traveling on this road, visitors pass picturesque Sylvan Lake.
3. Sylvan Lake
3.1. Sylvan Lake will be the fifth stop on our trip.
3.2. Nestled at the base of Harney Peak and surrounded by impressive rounded rock formations and ponderosa pine trees, Sylvan Lake is one of the most beautiful spots in the Black Hill’s Custer State Park. Whether you just pass by on the scenic Needles Highway or choose to spend an entire day at Sylvan Lake, you’ll find any number of ways to pass your time in the picturesque location.
4. Deadwood
4.1. Deadwood will be the first stop on our trip.
4.2. The discovery of gold in the Black Hills in 1874 set off one of the last great gold rushes in the country. In 1876, miners moved into the northern Black Hills. That’s where they came across a gulch full of dead trees and a creek full of gold…and Deadwood was born.
5. Crazy Horse Monument
5.1. Crazy Horse Monument will be the third stop on our trip.
5.2. Crazy Horse Memorial is the world's largest sculpture-in-progress, and frequent drilling and mountain blasts make each visit unique. When completed, Crazy Horse Memorial will stand 563 feet tall by 641 feet long. The project was started in 1948 at the request of Chief Henry Standing Bear who invited sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to carve a mountain to honor the heritage, tradition and culture of North American Indians. Its namesake, Crazy Horse, was a war leader of the Oglala Lakota
6. Wind Cave National Park
6.1. Wind Cave National Park will be the sixth and last stop on our trip.
6.2. Swaying prairie grasses, forested hillsides, and an array of wildlife such as bison, elk, and prairie dogs welcome visitors to one of our country’s oldest national parks and one of its few remaining intact prairies. Secreted beneath is one of the world’s longest caves, Wind Cave. Named for barometric winds at its entrance, this complex labyrinth of passages contains a unique formation – boxwork.
