1. Interim/Benchmark

1.1. Definition: Assessment administered at different intervals during the school year to check students understanding level and impact future instruction

2. Performance

2.1. Definition: Form of testing that requires students to perform a task rather than select an answer from a ready-made-list

2.2. Examples: Individual or group projects, portfolios, journals

3. Diagnostic

3.1. Definition: Variety of assessment tasks that are used to determine students level of knowledge, skills, and understanding at the beginning of a grading period or unit

3.2. Examples: STAAR test, MAPS test, pretests

5. Formative

5.1. Definition: Informal assessments given throughout a unit that are flexible and engaging ways to gauge whether or students are understanding the material

6. Summative

6.1. Definition: Cumulative/end of unit tests that determine a students overall understanding and long term memory of information learned during a unit

6.2. Examples: End of unit tests, final exams, research paper, group project
