1. The Church of England teaches that men and women are equal and therefore should be given the same opportunities. For example they allow both men and women to be priests and bishops and believe that it is wrong to limit a person’s opportunities based on their gender. Orthodox Jews believe that men and women are equal but that they have different roles. The man’s role is to work and earn money and the woman’s role is to look after and raise children. 3. Divorce is always wrong
3.1. Agree: Christians believe that God unites the couple when they marry and makes them one with each other. ‘Man must not separate what God has joined together’ This shows that divorce is always wrong • When a couple marry they vow to each other and God their marriage will be ‘for better or for worse… until death do us part’. By getting divorced the couple are breaking this vow. • “I hate divorce’ says the Lord” This shows that divorce is an act against God and therefore never justifiable.
3.2. Disagree: There maybe situations when divorce is the best thing to do. A person may be experiencing domestic abuse within their marriage and have separated from their partner. To allow them a divorce so that they can move on and have another opportunity to find love is a loving act and Jesus said the greatest commandment is to ‘Love your neighbor’ Liberal Christians argue that when the couple vow ‘until death do us part’ it refers to the death of the relationship rather than the death of the individuals, therefore if the couple have tried everything but there is no way of continuing their relationship then they should be allowed to divorce.
