1.2. At the end of the lesson, students should be able to describe how their country of choice transported supplies to the front lines, and any shortcoming or success those countries had in moving supplies

2. Instructional Activites

2.1. Opening

2.1.1. The Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor was to cripple our fleet in the pacific ocean, and to cripple our oil supply for that same fleet. Wars are won and lost based on who can adequately feed and supply their armies, as also evidenced by Germany’s failed push into Russia. Today we are going to start an activity exploring how supply lines impact wars. You will be researching and writing a three page paper over the course of the week on the supply lines of your chosen country. You will examine how your country primarily transported their supplies, how they protected them, and what the main supplies transported were.

2.2. Engagement

2.2.1. How did your chosen country transport their supplies to the various fronts that they fought on? Did your country have to deal with sabotage to their supplies, and how did they protect the supplies? What were the main supplies your country transported to the front lines? What do you think your country could have improved about their supply lines?

2.3. Closure

2.3.1. After you have completed this assignment, you should have a better understanding of how countries ship their supplies during wartime. You will gain a better understanding of the importance of supply lines during wartime, and be able to relate WWII supply line methods to ones used in modern times.

4. Accomodations

4.1. Any student with a learning disability will have three additional days to complete the assignment, due to the amount of reading and research required.

4.2. Any student with a reading disability can use only videos for their sources if they choose, provided they adequately cite the video and it has relevant information.

4.3. A teacher aide will be provided to assist with the research if needed for the duration of the assignment.

5. Introduction Of Unit

5.1. Supply lines are a crucial part of any war, your objective for this activity is to pick one of the main powers of WWII (USA, England, Germany, Russia,Italy, Japan) and research how they transported their supplies to the front lines, and made sure they were protected

6. Using a computer to conduct accurate research, and learning and to tell if a website offers correct and usable information, and using microsoft word/google docs/youtube

7.1. Understanding how supply lines influence wars, and what goes into making them successful, tying into the overall theme of why some nations won and some lost in WWII

9.1. Pre

9.1.1. I will ask questions about how WWII was fought, and what some of the significant events were. I will then steer the discussion on to how the class thinks supply lines had an impact on those large events.

9.2. Formative

9.2.1. They will turn in an outline detailing the structure and content of their paper two days after I have given the assignment. This will let me know if my students understand the concepts being discussed.

9.3. Summative

9.3.1. The contents of their papers they wrote for the assignment will show me if they understand how supply lines functioned in WWII, and their overall importance.
