1.2.1. Women in poverty fantasize about seducing older, white men (coroa) to help them out of poverty.

1.2.1.1. Those with "whiter" characteristics are believed to have a better opportunity of succedding in life.

1.3. Race and Class

1.3.1. North America: Typically think of themselves as part of the middle class. Do not think in class-based forms of power. Usually take part in debates about race-based affirmative action, but not in class-based. Stereotypes about different races and their economic status.

1.3.2. Brazil: Uncomfortable to speak about racism. A civil rights movement for the blacks never took place. Cultures other than pure Brazilian is combined into one national identity. In terms of race, it is only considered "different" when compared to the United States.

1.6.1. Was assaulted physically and verbally because she was black, was later found out to be the governor's daughter. Filed a racial discrimination suit against her attackers. Referred to as the "nail in the coffin" in regards to racial democracy in Brazil.

2.3.1. Upper class and elite: Having servants is a class marker. Do not worry about becoming part of lower class.

2.3.2. Middle class: Defined as the ability to pay someone else to do your manual labor. Expected to have a person cook and clean for them. Supposed to make things happen economically and politically.

2.3.2.1. Relationships sometime develop between employed and employers.

2.3.3. Working and lower class: Big variation in salary between middle and lower class. Did not make enough money to live. Women were typically domestic workers. Would laugh and make fun of elite class when they had a tragedy, would use this as a coping method to rationalize their own problems.

2.3.3.1. Public schooling was below average. Lower class could not provide children with a good education.
