Getting to know the university ‘Dnipro Polytechnic’ by Danil Mamaev

1. Research platform

1.1. Taking into account the world experience and improving the process of technology transfer, Dnipro Polytechnic has launched a new initiative - scientific activity through open platforms, joining forces with research institutions and representatives of business structures. The combination of financial capabilities of enterprises and scientific ideas through the openness of the information space has the greatest effect on the development of not only the energy sector, but the economy as a whole, as it is based not only on mutual interest, but also on the synergy of capabilities of different structures to create high-tech products and transfer technology.

2. From the history of the university

2.1. 16 червня 1899 року був заснований перший заклад вищої гірничої освіти нашої держави та міста Дніпра (тодішнього Катеринослава), який тепер відомий як Дніпровська політехніка. Більш ніж столітня історія університету яскраво відображає не лише економічний розвиток великого південного регіону держави і науково-технічний прогрес, але і його суспільно-політичне та культурне життя. Можна знайти подібний заклад вищої освіти за багатопрофільністю та висококласністю підготовки спеціалістів для національної економіки, за науковим потенціалом професорсько-викладацького складу і навіть за багатством традицій суспільно-політичного і культурного життя. Та небагато в межах держави закладів вищої освіти, які б своїм науковим і кадровим потенціалом (створення нових інститутів, надання кадрів) поклали початок більш ніж двом десяткам закладів освіти та науково-дослідних інститутів, серед яких Дніпропетровський хіміко-технологічний інститут (1930), Дніпропетровський металургійний інститут (1930), Північно-Кавказький гірничо-металургійний інститут (1931), Науково-дослідний хімічний інститут ім. П. Г. Мелікішвілі в Тбілісі (1929), Московський зварювальний інститут (1925), Всесоюзний науково-дослідний конструкторсько-технологічний інститут трубної промисловості (1929), Інститут фізичної хімії ім. Л. В. Писаржевського в Києві (1927) та ін. Крім того, цьому вишу судилося стати першим у всій величезній Катеринославській губернії.

3. Politics

3.1. The rector of the university in 1982-2021 was Hennadii Hryhorovych Pivniak, who headed the institution for over 38 years, actively developing contacts with the political and economic elite of the country, as well as international contacts. The institution has traditionally had strong ties with the owners and managers of Ukraine's mining companies, including coal mines in Donbas. The second President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, President of the National Academy of Sciences Boris Paton, the first Prime Minister of Ukraine Vitold Fokin and many other prominent Ukrainians were involved in the development of the institution. Despite the traditional contacts with Donetsk political elites in 1990-2000, after the occupation of Crimea and the beginning of Russia's armed aggression in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the administration, staff and students of Dnipro Polytechnic took a patriotic stance, actively supporting the Ukrainian army and volunteer movement. 4. National Technical University ‘Dnipro Polytechnic’

4.1. National Technical University ‘Dnipro Polytechnic ’ is a state higher education institution, a multidisciplinary technical university, the oldest higher education institution in Dnipro, the first institution of higher mining education in Ukraine. It has the status of a national university. On 20 December 2017, by the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, NSU was renamed into the National Technical University ‘Dnipro Polytechnic’.

5. About the university

5.1. It was founded in 1899 as Ekaterinoslav Higher Mining School. Since 1912 - Yekaterinoslav Mining Institute of Emperor Peter I. Since 1926 - Dnipro Artem Mining Institute. In 1993, it was granted the status of a state higher education institution of the IV level and named the State Mining Academy of Ukraine. On 11.06.1997, the Academy was granted national status. On 28.02.2002, the NGMA was reorganised into the National Mining University. In September 2017, the Academic Council launched the rebranding procedure and determined the new name of the higher education institution: National Technical University ‘Dnipro Polytechnic’ (Dnipro University of Technology, DniproTech). The university has a full cycle of mining and geological, IT, economic and humanitarian specialities. It employs almost 600 teachers (including more than 100 doctors of sciences and professors, more than 300 candidates of sciences, associate professors, members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and industry academies[3]). Over 120 years of its existence, more than 90 thousand specialists have been trained. About 8 thousand students study at the university.
