Difference between English Spelling and Pronunciationda Marlon Alejandro
1. Spelling is the ability to spell words in the correct way. It is also an attempt to spell a word in the correct way
2. Pronunciation means how we say words. Most people speak the dialect of standard English with an accent that belongs to the part of the country they come from or live in.
3. Common words
3.1. Colonel: The first ‘l’ in this word is silent. Neither ‘o’ should be pronounced with rounded lips.
3.2. Language: Here is another example of the spelling rule seen in mortgage! There is also a secret /w/ sound that needs to be pronounced.
3.3. Yoghurt: There is no pronounced /h/ in ‘yoghurt’. Pronounce the end with a schwa and a /t/ sound.
3.4. Squirrel: The consonant cluster ‘squi’ is not common but can be quite tricky to pronounce.the two syllables (/skwɪ/ and /rəɫ/ ) separately first and then try putting them together.
4. Butcher: This word should not be pronounced in the same way as ‘but’. Instead, the first syllable should rhyme with ‘put’.
