Light da Mind Map: Light

1. Colors

1.1. Dispersion:

1.1.1. Split white light according to wavelength (visible spectrum)

1.1.1.1. Violet

1.1.1.2. Indigo

1.1.1.3. Blue

1.1.1.4. Green

1.1.1.5. Yellow

1.1.1.6. Orange

1.1.1.7. Red

1.1.2. How?

1.1.2.1. Refraction through prism

1.1.2.2. Each color slows down at different rates

1.1.2.2.1. Refracts at different angles

1.1.2.2.2. Red: longest wavelength: fastest, least refraction

1.1.2.2.3. Violet: shortest wavelength: slowest, most refraction

2. Applications of Optics

2.1. Prisms

2.1.1. A block of isosceles right-angled triangle shaped glass

2.1.1.1. As light enters the prism it is reflected at angle of 90 degrees

2.1.1.2. Arrange two in the same tube, get a periscope

2.1.1.3. Arrange two opposite each other, invert light 180 degrees, and see what's behind you

3. Mixing of color:

3.1. Primary

3.1.1. Red

3.1.2. Green

3.1.3. Blue

3.2. Secondary

3.2.1. Yellow (Red plus Green)

3.2.2. Magenta (Red plus Blue)

3.2.3. Cyan (Blue plus Green)

3.3. Filter

3.3.1. Remove color from light

3.3.2. Red filter removes Cyan (secondary color)

3.3.3. Magenta filter removes Green (primary color)

3.3.4. If red light goes through blue filter

3.3.4.1. Red shall not pass

3.3.4.2. No other color: light transmitted is black
