2. At the beginning of the novel Atticus isn’t considered so much of a hero towards his children. Jem and Scout were embarrassed by him because he wasn’t like other fathers. He didn’t fish or hunt or acted as more a “manly figure”. But through out the novel Jem and Scout learned more about their father and his motivation to do whats right.
3. Atticus acts as a Judge in his household. He will listen to both sides of Jem and Scout to know whats should be right and wrong.

"The main one is, if I didn't I couldn't hold up my head in town, I couldn't represent this county in the legislature, I couldn't even tell you or Jem not to do something again." […] "Atticus, are we going to win it?" "No, honey." "Then why-" "Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win," Atticus said.
10.1. Even though Atticus knew his chances at winning this case were not high it didn't stop him from trying.
