1. you do is make a lot of dough and play golf and play bridge and buy cars and drink Martinis and look like a hot-shot. And besides. Even if you did go around saving guys' lives and all, how would you know if you did it because you really wanted to save guys' lives, or because you did it because what you really wanted to do was be a terrific lawyer, with everybody slapping you on the back and congratulating you in court when the goddam trial was over, the reporters and everybody, the way it is in the dirty movies?
1.1. how Holden is like Hyde
1.1.1. in that 70's show, Hyde is very different and judgmental much like Holden. much like Hyde , Holden also has "daddy issues" he doesn't really know when to stop but he loves and just wants to be loved in return
1.1.2. holden is the start of a new generation! he is rebellious and moving away from the people who have conformed. much like hyde.. he is the new movement in the show and shoes new culture. in this book I feel as if holden is representing the tart of a new generation!
1.1.2.1. "I forgot to tell you about that. They kicked me out. I wasn't supposed to come back after Christmas vacation, on account of I was flunking four subjects and not applying myself and all."
2. how Holden relates directly to directly teens
2.1. Holden is a very angsty teen who has troubles just like every one else, such as relationship problems That's the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they're not much to look at, or even if they're sort of stupid, you fall in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. Girls. Jesus Christ. They can drive you crazy. They really can.”
2.1.1. he says his mind, regardless to if its appropriate or not he speaks like no one is listening and defiantly pushes boundaries, much like us teenagers. for example when he is talking to stradlatter and about to get in a fight, he keeps mouthing off to "you don't do one damn thing the way you're supposed to do it. I mean it. not one damn thing. alright then give it back to me. I went over and pulled it out of his right hand and tore it up."
2.2. "Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody
2.2.1. as a teenager, looking back at my past and when i talk about it and the people that use to be in it, i do tend to get damn depressed and miss everyone. times were simpler back then, everybody seemed to be stress_free and happy.
3. how Holden can relate to everybody
3.1. Holden is very emotional and sometimes can"t control himself (or just doesn't care) and there is a point in time where we all just haven't cared at all and do extremely irrational things like Holden does.
3.1.1. "Sleep tight, ya morons!"
3.1.1.1. everyone craves attention and love from others and it is normal not to feel like you're not getting enough of that. it is extreme in Holden case because it actually seems like no one actually loves him or cares.
3.1.1.1.1. "People never notice anything"
4. how Holden can compare to jay gatsby.
4.1. "Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around-nobody big, I mean-except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff-I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy"
4.1.1. throughout the whole book and movie of Great Gatsby, Kay is playing a catching game with Daisy and is trying to get her for himself. like Holden, Jay is alone is is longing for people although jay actually has people who like him and Holden doesn't they are going through very similar situations
4.1.1.1. "It'll show you how I've gotten to feel about – things. Well, she was less than an hour old and Tom was God knows where. I woke up out of the ether with an utterly abandoned feeling, and asked the nurse right away if it was a boy or a girl. She told me it was a girl, and so I turned my head away and wept. 'All right,' I said, 'I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool – that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.'" (1.116-118) Daisy gives birth to her child alone—the nurse is there, but her husband is nowhere to be found. Apparently, he's not even pacing the hall with a cigar, the way dads were supposed to back in the 1920s. And that poor little girl, born alone into a lonely world. It's enough to make us reach for the tissues. (Gatsby)
