1.1. Kapita Community Savings and Investment Promotion Cooperative

1.1.1. Original community bank model failed but supported 18 businesses (most paid back)

1.1.2. Cooperative structure has been a success with 35 active members and $1,650 in loan capital

1.2. Business Development Training

1.2.1. Over 200 entrepreneurs trained in CEFE Business Development Program.

1.2.2. 2 Business clinics

1.2.3. Partnership with BEED Malawi

1.3. Solar Lighting

1.3.1. 200 households with access to solar lighting

1.3.1.1. Reduced cost of living - no need of kerosene or batteries .

1.3.1.2. No risk of burns or smoke

1.3.2. Partnership with Mzuzu University and Voltaic Systems

1.4. Kapita Primary School (450 pupils)

1.4.1. Permaculture Garden

1.4.1.1. Training of teachers, parents and students in permaculture by contracted consultant Lieza Du Preez

1.4.1.2. Permaculture committee established with student, staff and parent reps. First action plan created in 2011

1.4.1.3. Approx 4 acres under permaculture cultivation

1.4.1.4. Improved attendance and enrollment. Gardem is a "living laboratory"

1.4.1.5. School is providing fruit e.g. bananas to children on a regular basis.

1.4.1.6. 20 lead farmers have been trained in permaculture and are now applying these techniques to their own farms

1.4.2. Eco Sanitation

1.4.2.1. 1 composting toilet built as a training session including students and staff

1.4.2.2. Action plan for expansion of Ecosan (delayed) but underway in 2015.

1.4.3. School books . tablets and laptop

1.4.3.1. 3 tablets, a laptop and a projector provided

1.4.3.2. Books for Std 6-8 provided (National curriculum)

1.4.4. Fulltime permaculture consultant oversaw the expansion of the garden and the establishment of a tree nursery.

1.4.5. Solar power via Mzuzu University UN Grant

1.4.5.1. School is able to light up two main halls and power laptops and tablets

1.5. Earthship Community Center

1.5.1. Partnership with Earthship Biotecture to organise 2 builds to complete 5 rooms and train local teams.

1.5.2. Remaining 3 rooms will be complete by Jan 2016

1.6. Kapita Prechool

1.6.1. 50 children will form first enrollment

1.6.2. Will be housed in the Earthship Community Center

1.6.3. Will have a meal program

1.6.4. Self sustaining via a MKW500 fee per child per month.

1.6.5. 3 community members identified to serve as teachers. Will be trained in Nov 2015

2. Mpamba(2015) - A region of 38 villages and approximately 10,000 residents.

2.1. Timbiri Savings and Credit Cooperative

2.1.1. 5 member board elected

2.1.2. Policies developed

2.1.3. Bankmanager and cashier hired

2.1.4. Cooperative registered

2.1.5. 320 members signed up

2.1.6. Bank opened on the 3rd November.
