1.4.1. a system that combines aspects of both capitalism and socialism
2. social contract
2.1. people live together in society in accordance with an agreement that establishes moral and political rules of behavior.
3. soereign state
3.1. A state (country) which has sovereignty over a defined geographic area, is completely independent of any other country, and has its own government.

5. the three branches of the US GOV
5.1. legislative
5.1.1. Made up of the House and Senate, known collectively as the Congress. Among other powers, the legislative branch makes all laws, declares war, regulates interstate and foreign commerce and controls taxing and spending policies.
5.2. executive
5.2.1. consists of the President, his or her advisors and various departments and agencies. This branch is responsible for enforcing the laws of the land
5.3. Judicial
5.3.1. in charge of deciding the meaning of laws, how to apply them to real situations, and whether a law breaks the rules of the Constitution
