1. ***Migration*** What causes migration and how has it impacted America?

1.1. The act of 1924 limited how many immigrants could come in the U.S. Every year

1.2. Holocaust

1.2.1. America didn't know the extent of the Holocaust and refused many Jews entrance to the country and Hitler was able to keep and kill

1.3. The Vietnam War

1.3.1. After the Vietnam ware, the South Vietnamese were evacuated. Many people had left after this war which made America realize that this war had not only affected our soldiers but America as a whole.

2. ***Economics:*** How has economics impacted America & Americans?

2.1. 1920's Working Class

2.1.1. There were a lot of immigrants coming into the country at this time which gave and increase of factory jobs to people and women were now allowed to work in the industry and not just at home. We learned that when wages go up and hours go down people have more time to go out.

2.2. Prohibition

2.2.1. This costed the government billions of dollars in debt. The government also could not control the amount of alcohol being sold. We learned that placing restrictions on items without a law takes a toll on our money.

2.3. Credit

2.3.1. When there is too much credit taken out on items, people do not have the savings to pay for their debt.

2.4. Great Deoression

2.4.1. The New Deal was created to fix the economic problems, it cost a lot of money and government increased debt.

2.5. Civil Rights

2.5.1. Bus Boycotts made the American Society realize how much African Americans are important to economic growth/ decay of America. We learned that economic protest had been very effective

3. ***Leaders & Presidents*** What makes an effective or ineffective leader?

3.1. Woodrow Wilson

3.1.1. He had created the League of Nations after World War I and it was rejected because the U.S was not involved in this league which led to America to be involved in isolationism. Overall it was not very effective.

3.2. FDR vs Hoover

3.2.1. FDR had taken a more constructive position towards his presidency while Hoover was more peaceful and less demanding but the timing had not been the best for Hoover when the Great Depression struck. FDR took action when he came into office but didn't realize how much he was affecting others.

3.3. Pivotal Battles

3.3.1. Leaders: A military leader who is aggressive can only be stopped aggressively (appeasement doesn't work)

3.3.2. Leaders- Having an "enemy" became an ally promotes competition and harder fighting but can lead to tension after war

3.4. Adolf Hitler

3.4.1. He was willing to fight until the end which can be challenging to defeat especially when his main desire was world domination

3.4.2. He took a very effective approach towards battling and focused on major offensive attacks which helped him win many battles until Stalingrad

3.5. Views on Civil Rights

3.5.1. Malcolm X had directed his audience towards African Americans and focused on them taking control over whites while MLK focused on the crowd of good v. evil and felt that they should work together in a non-violent way.

3.6. The Vietnam War

3.6.1. President Nixon had created a plan to get American troops out of Vietnam and replace them with South Vietnamese troops by working with the solution called Vietnamization. Nixon had learned that this tactic was not successful and many soldiers had been killed and multiple people had gained a lack of trust in the government. (Batman tried his best to help but he didn't ;) )

4. ***Government:*** What is the role and responsibility of the American government?

4.1. Prohibition

4.1.1. This consisted of the government trying to ban alcohol to maintain people's health and to reduce crime rates. This made people want to buy it more even though it was illegal. When the government try to create acts without laws it does not work and just costs money.

4.2. The New Deal

4.2.1. The New Deal was an all out good idea but the choice that FDR had made with getting involved with others lives negatively impacted his presidency which many people had accused him of turning our country into pure socialism.

4.3. World War II

4.3.1. Totalitarianism: When one leader has too much power, they can do whatever they want if they are not challenged

4.4. Holocaust

4.4.1. Since Hitler was in power and kept pushing limits with persecution and no one stopped him he was able to continue what he was doing and kill that many people.

4.5. U.S. Policy of Containment

4.5.1. President Truman created a policy that pledged to support the countries fighting communism. President Truman was the first president to create this policy and was pretty successful even with the efforts done by the Soviet Union to spread communism

4.6. Great Society

4.6.1. When the government decreases taxes and creates large social programs, government debt will increase

5. ***Technology*** How does technology impact society?

5.1. Post War Technology

5.1.1. After the war we received the radio, washer and vehicles etc. and now when you look at today's society you can see how they evolved and their technological advancements

5.2. Warfare

5.2.1. When there Is a lot of new technology we will not be ready for warfare

5.3. End of WWII

5.3.1. New powerful weapons can quickly end war when one side has them.

5.4. The Vietnam War

5.4.1. During Rolling Thunder (a bombing campaign), Nixon had started bombing North Vietnamese and dropped more than twice the amount than was dropped on Germany. The bombs had hit many homes of innocent civilians and were known as pointless attacks. Napalm was a gas that got stuck to everything and burned everything in it's path America had learned that even though this had brought the North into Negotiation, there had been a lot of backlash for these attacks which left soldiers to deal with when they came home.

6. ***Media*** To what extent does the media influence people? To what extent does the media mirror or reflect society?

6.1. Radio

6.1.1. Radios were created which let us be more connected and we could hear what was going on around the world

6.2. Articles in the newspaper

6.3. America on Home front: Media

6.3.1. The media, when necessary, can be manipulated to serve the greater good by influencing people to aid in war efforts

6.4. The Hollywood Ten

6.4.1. The power of television throughout the 1950's was able to cause the fear throughout the U.S. during this case. Joseph McCarthy used this piece of technology to his advantage.

6.5. Emmett Till

6.5.1. Emmett Till's open casket allowed people in the world to see what had happened to this child which sparked the Civil Rights Movement

6.6. The Vietnam War

6.6.1. The media had played a huge role in America at this time and had displayed the horrors and deaths of many people who had fought for Hamburger Hill. America had learned about the pointless attacks that had been taken place during this war and had built up a lot of frustration against the president and the soldiers. Overall, America had discovered that the media had been one of their biggest enemies during this time, exposing what had really been going on during this war.

7. ***Foreign Relations*** How have foreign entanglements influence America?

7.1. World War I

7.1.1. When the U.S. is involved in world affairs to a large extent, it is hard to be neutral if a major conflict breaks out.

7.1.2. Forming Allies can draw the country into a broader conflict

7.2. World War II

7.2.1. Treaty of Versailles: When there are attempts at blaming one country, conflict will result

7.3. Spread of Communism

7.3.1. America is trying their best to contain communism but as long as The Soviet Union is trying to spread communism, it becomes a lot harder to contain it. We learn that as long as there is a communist country, you cannot trade with other countries because the Government owns private property.

7.4. The Vietnam War

7.4.1. In the beginning of the war, at the Gulf of Tonkin, the US was attacked on August but not attacked on August which led to America declaring war on Vietnam even though it was based off of false pretense. America had learned that keeping this war a secret from the public was extremely hard and eventually led to hate that spread throughout America.

8. ***Civil Rights:*** To what extent have the oppressed in America been able to attain an equality of life?

8.1. 1920s Women

8.1.1. Women Gained the right to vote and Weren't expected to marry as early as they have before

8.1.2. African American Culture Started to mix with others and people were starting to connect with things such as Jazz, African arts and many other things.

8.2. American On the Homefront

8.2.1. Civil Rights: Disenfranchised groups are needed and and want to continue being needed in times when there is a connecting issue

8.3. Civil Rights Movement

8.3.1. African Americans learned that by gaining publicity, support from the government and support from America, they were able to start a movement that had enable the passing of different bills that were sent to congress.
