Peer Assessment Door Mind Map: Peer Assessment

1. Purpose

1.1. increase student involvement

1.2. build community in classroom

1.3. bring attention to the process

2. Avoid

2.1. having students pinpoint every mistake in an assignment they're reviewing

2.2. pairing up friends or enemies because this increases biases and reduces usefulness of feedback

2.3. unclear instructions or lack of guidance because this will lead to unreliable assessments

3. Suggestions for Implementation

3.1. have students target key points

3.2. model ideal feedback

3.3. include appropriate comments in expectations for feedback

3.4. have patience with the process

3.5. use students' response to peer feedback implementation to alter (or maintain) your implementation going forward

3.6. have more than one person give feedback for each product to give more than one perspective (and avoid biases)

3.7. have a debriefing session after the peer review to gauge what students are thinking and what you may need to alter to accommodate that thinking
