3. Asynchronous Through Google Jamboard, students will be grouped by level and complete their assigned question after the first read. Sample questions: In paragraphs 33-38, Papa talks with Stacey, and then with Cassie. In these passages, what do Stacey and Cassie learn from Papa about the importance of standing up for yourself and for others? What theme , or message, do Papa's words express? What information do readers learn in the first two paragraphs of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry? Use evidence from the text and specific reasons to explain your answer.

4.1. Mapping How Americans Talk - Soda vs. Pop vs. Coke Synchronous Students will observe the video and answer a series of questions focused on the different types of dialects in American English. What do you call the big road your parents drive relatively fast on? What do you call the drink that’s sweet and carbonated (has bubbles?)

4.1.1. Asynchronous Students will read a prompt pertaining to authors using dialect and answer the following questions: Why do authors sometimes write in dialect? 5. The Great Depression

5.1. Great Depression - BrainPOP Synchronous Students will watch the BrainPop and list some of the hardships Americans faced in The Great Depression.
