Communication Skills Door Mind Map: Communication Skills

1. Active listening: This means being aware and paying close attention to the person you are speaking with. Also, when doing so it is easier to notice things such as body language, gestures etc. Overall, it allows you to understand people easier

2. Respect: Having respect is just common sense, it makes the other person feel heard and appreciated. Furthermore, it also relates to kindness because again someone would rather speak to someone respectful than someone who is not.

3. Appropriate volume level: This is an important skill because you need to know how loud/quiet to speak + tone depending on where you are. Just like how in school they tell you to use your indoor voices but once you get outside for recess then you can use your outdoor voices.

4. Responsiveness: Responsiveness is an important skill to have because it again shows the person you are aware and paying attention. Being responsive also acknowledges what the other person is saying, this shows respect.

5. Noticing body language: A good communication skill is being able to notice nonverbal cues when someone is speaking, one of the biggest/easiest things to look at is someone's body language while they speak. However body language goes for yourself as well, sitting in certain ways can look like you really don't want to even hear the other person.

6. Kindness: Being kind allows the other person to feel safe, understood and respected. Majority of people would rather communicate with someone who is positive compared to someone rude.

7. Giving/receiving feedback: Having this skill allows you to not only improve yourself but help other improve on things as well. Furthermore, there is always room to improve so it is very beneficial for all people to recieve feedback.

8. Confidence: Being confident is a good skill because it attracts more people to you, people who want help, want to pitch ideas etc. This is because when you are confident you are able to communicate easier, you tend to not be as hesitant.

9. Eye contact: Just like active listening, eye contact allows you to pay close attention to the speaker and also shows respect. When you make eye contact, the other person feels you are truly listening.
