Supranationalism

1. How Effective is it?
1.1. United Nations?
1.1.1. Support: Able to deal with threats to peace by imposing sanctions, blocking communication, and implementing peacekeepers. They also promote interactions between countries, both economically and socially. This builds relationships between countries and increases world piece.
1.1.2. Oppose: Since the UN is so large and intricate, it is slow moving. Appeasement is also argued to be given too often, and that nothing is really done to enforce rules. Larger, more powerful countries that have strong influence in the UN can use it to put themselves ahead instead of doing what is best for everybody.
1.2. NATO
1.2.1. Support: NATO protects the security and freedom of countries. It is such a large organization that any threat would quickly be destroyed with such a large, unified army. This keeps members safe and ensures freedoms aren't taken away by other nations.
1.2.2. Oppope: The expansion of NATO has made it much less effective because it is less efficient and their are more opposing views which create conflict within the organization.
2. What is it?
2.1. Definition: Organizations or groups that go beyond national borders.
2.2. Support: A unified world is much more peaceful as you want to help those who help you. Supranationalism also ensures that all countries are helped and reduce the division between developed and developing nations. Globalization has also allowed goods to be spread across the world, increasing economic trade amoungst countries.
2.3. Opposition: Supranationalism is a slower process that the alternative of many different nations focusing on themselves. A smaller group can have less roadblocks and formalities that could slow them down. Local economies can suffer since their market is now available to its competitors around the world, so people may buy cheaper goods from other countries rather than domestic ones.
3. Romania's Involvement
3.1. United Nations: Romania joined the UN in 1955 and continues to give input on decisions which affect the organization and the reset of the world.
3.2. NATO: Romania joined Nato in 2004 and has participated in several peacekeeping missions. Some of the locations were Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Albania.
